SPEAKER(S)

Alexandra Rothstein, MA, BCBA
This training course is based upon 30 hours of training + practical and written tests. Training will take place from 6-9pm on Tuesday evenings, beginning January 31 to April 24, 2012 (no course on February 7th and April 10th).

Alexandra Rothstein, MA, BCBA
Alexandra obtained her Master’s Degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis from the University of Nevada, Reno. She is currently one of the Clinical Directors of the Gold Centre’s ABILI-T ABA Programme. Alexandra supervises ABA programmes, provides parents with behaviour management strategies, and conducts parent workshops. She is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst with over ten years of experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, special needs, learning disabilities and behaviour difficulties.

* A Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) has undergone a rigorous process to ensure that they are able to provide ABA services of the highest calibre. BCBAs have obtained Masters Degrees which include 225 hours of specific Graduate-level coursework, and have completed a minimum of 1500 hours of supervised independent fieldwork, with 75 additional hours of direct supervision by a BACB approved practitioner. Additionally, each BCBA has passed a comprehensive examination administered by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board. Applied behaviour analysis utilizes principles of learning to improve socially significant behaviour (behaviour that is important in the individual’s life). Thousands of studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of ABA across many different settings, populations and behaviours. Applied behaviour analysis is one of the only interventions with evidence of effectiveness in producing comprehensive and lasting improvements for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (gains in IQ, language & communication, social skills, self-help skills, academics, etc). Programs are individualized to each child and focus on systematically teaching small, measurable units of behaviour.
Early intensive behavioural intervention (EIBI) is the intensive application of the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis to children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.

Training objectives: After successful completion of the training, participants will be able to:
• Describe Applied Behaviour Analysis, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Early intensive behavioural intervention
• Implement both structured and naturalistic teaching methodologies used in ABA programs (DTT, NET, shaping, chaining, prompting)
• Generalize skills using a variety of techniques
• Identify and describe the ABCs of learning
• Understand the functions of behaviour
• Identify some strategies for managing problem behaviour
• Help to promote appropriate behaviours

Who should attend the training: The training will provide essential information for those seeking positions as instructor therapists, special education teachers, resource teachers, integration aides, other paraprofessionals or professionals working in the field of autism spectrum disorders and/or developmental disabilities, as well as parents, guardians, or family members of children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.

Training format: The training will include lectures, videos, small group discussion, live modeling and role-playing. A quiz covering the topics discussed will be given after each section. A final exam and therapist evaluation will be given at the end of the training. Participants are required to pass both the exam and the evaluation to receive a certificate of completion.
