In 2002, under the terms of a Contribution Agreement through the Department of Human Resources Development Canada's Social Development Partnerships Program, The Miriam Foundation established The Abe Gold Learning and Research Centre. The Centre serves as a bilingual training and resource centre that develops training programs, conferences, workshops and parent education seminars in the field of autism and other developmental disabilities.
Since its inception, The Abe Gold Learning and Research Centre has worked tirelessly in partnership with affected parents, field professionals, academics, and multi-sectorial community partners to further enhance their knowledge and to help improve the quality of life of persons with autism and other developmental disabilities. The Centre offers increased and improved opportunities for all to communicate, learn, and participate in community life.
A strong and solid foundation has been laid whereby The Learning Centre, assisted by an Advisory Committee of health-care professionals, educators, affected parents and caregivers thrives to meet the social development needs and aspirations of persons with autism and other developmental disabilities.
